Stop acting like ya’ll just saw a ghost. Nobody said Mya‘s career was dead. As mah gurl Jeff would say, “just ’cause you ain’t heard nothin’, don’t mean there ain’t nothin’.”
The ‘Case of The Ex’ singer has been busy busting out choons exclusively for the Japanese market these days so I like to believe that somewhere in the far east, she’s bumpin’ out hits quicker than them conveyor belt full of sushis can handle.
‘Fabulous Life’ – hemmed by Japanese/Korean producer Jeff Miyahara, who’s famed for his work with J-pop artistes like Jasmine and JuJu – is the first single from Mya‘s upcoming studio album.
Hail a limo, pop a bubbly and tell me if the choon complements the vibe:
Feed Limmy verdict: Lightbulb snap.
Mighty snap = this is a hit.
Bounce snap = instantly likeable.
Lightbulb snap = you will need a moment to get into this.
Nonchalant snap = need I say more?
No snap = please cease and decease.
I’ll have you know that I like my Mya tracks feisty and ghetto real. Her Moodring and Japan-only album Liberation had some truth-talkers that really spoke to me, so if it’s all sweet and lightweight pop from here on in, then I might just have to check out for the minute.
Mya‘s last studio album – 2008’s Sugar & Spice – was only released it Japan and it featured a single with my Malaysian sista from anotha mista Che’Nelle. Miss thang then dropped her first official mixtape – Beauty & The Streets: Volume 1 – on her own label the following year which carried collabos with Nicki Minaj, Slim Thug and Bun B.
‘Fabulous Life’ is now out on iTunes Japan.
