Does it annoy you that some stans are treating this like it’s some life changing duet?
I had to pause for a second after first catching whiff of a Rihanna and Britney duet. Like many, I had hoped that both sides actually spent a minute to work on a new track together rather than having Brit warble a superfluous new verse on an already flawless Rihanna single.
‘S&M’ is easily one of the strongest tracks on Ri‘s Loud album and it’s not like it needed a leg up on the charts or anything [Editor’s note: the single spent five weeks at #1 in Australia, made #2 on the US Billboard 100 and #3 in the UK].
In fact, I can’t see how this is any more gravy on Ri’s roast. Bitch done got it covered already. She don’t need this. They’re already moving to push the next single – ‘California King Bed’ – which mind you, is the most added new song on Australian radios this week.
The only way I see this working in her favour is the obvious re-fuelled hype around ‘S&M’ and the incredible honour of having a Brit feature, something we all know Godney don’t oblige to very often.
Perhaps Mama Spears is copping the most benefit out of this deal. She’s got a new album to pimp and yes, on the surface it’s going swimmingly well (first #1 album in Australia and #1 on the US Billboard 200) but y’guys know that in America this is her lowest first week album sales since 1999, right?
On top of that, the Femme Fatale singles ‘Hold It Against Me’ and ‘Till The World Ends’ haven’t had much longevity on charts around the world – I can see a cause for concern.
Take a listen to the new remix of ‘S&M’ featuring Britney and tell me if it’s your tea:
I’m sorry but Brit‘s verse just sounds awkwardly pieced like a bad weave job. I don’t mind her in the chorus, though. That growl and tenacity in her vocals were right on the money.
Feed Limmy verdict: Lightbulb snap.
Mighty snap = this is a hit.
Bounce snap = instantly likeable.
Lightbulb snap = you will need a moment to get into this.
Nonchalant snap = need I say more?
No snap = please cease and decease.
“Rihanna & Britney” has been a top trending topic on Twitter worldwide for over 24 hours now. According to our mates at Auspop, Rihanna and Britney‘s ‘S&M’ will be out on iTunes Australia by the end of the week. Will anyone still care then?
The track was premiered on radio and simultaneously released in the US today.
