Leak Report: Melanie C ‘Rock Me’

You can’t have a global women’s soccer event without Sporty Spice serving an anthem! That would be madness.

Melanie C is back and not a moment too soon. All her other Spice cohorts have nabbed headlines for various reasons in the last week or so – check: Mel B scoring X Factor Australia judging gig, Victoria Beckham upstaging almost every female at the Royal Wedding with her unwavering eleganza, and Emma Bunton just gave birth to her second child.

Geri‘s plotting something greater than the monarchy itself, just you wait and see. It’ll be a third autobiography.

Check on Mel C‘s first single in over three years – ‘Rock Me’, which she co-wrote with David Roth. The track is produced by Roth and Andy Chatterly (the man behind records for Nerina Pallot, who also happens to be his wife, and Diana Vickers).

Update 11 May: Yep, here comes a preview of the chorus.

Sounds like some electrifying dated pop/rock fashion stuff leftover from the Reason era. Ya’ll remember ‘Yeh Yeh Yeh’, right?

By the way, if you go poke around on Mel‘s official website you’ll hear acapella warbles of random words pop out of nowhere. Not for the weak of heart because these motherfuckers do sneak up on you while you’re quietly browsing.

Melanie C‘s ‘Rock Me’ serves as the official song for the German network ZDF‘s coverage of the FIFA Women’s World Cup and contrary to my initial assumptions, it’s not the official song for the whole damn World Cup itself. No, they went with Alexis Jordan‘s breezy smash ‘Happiness’ instead.

The single will be released in Germany, Australia and Switzerland first on 24 June.
