Can you believe it’s already been a year since ‘Whip My Hair’ went viral? Young Willow’s label – Roc Nation – sure wasn’t in a hurry to cash in.
The spunky 10-year old spawn of Will and Jada is ready to let these children have it again with her third single: ‘Fireball’ featuring hip hop superstar Nicki Minaj.
I am personally a little apprehensive about how Willow’s records will be received after her follow up single ’21st Century Girl’ majorly tanked everywhere. When that sunk quicker than you can say “high school diploma”, I think everyone was quick to dismiss the child as just another flash in the pan but no not me, not I. I, for one, am thoroughly thrilled to hear Willow’s full album and see her continue to swag hard.
‘Fireball’ hears Willow returning to the urban-persuasion of ‘Whip My Hair’, complete with a lyrical reference by Onika Maraj that goes something like, “When they come at you tell ’em to ‘raise up!’. When it’s time to whip your hair, put your braids up!”.
Take a listen to the feisty track here:
Willow‘s debut album is expected to arrive very soon and producer Jukebox, who hemmed ‘Whip My Hair’, has said that it’ll be a kaleidoscopic take on pop, hip hop and rock done in a rather “international” fashion. That’s what I’m talkin’ about.
Young Willow has released ‘Fireball’ to US iTunes and it has yet to crack the Top 200 there.
