Elsewhere, Pitbull featuring Ne-Yo, Afrojack and Nayer’s ‘Give Me Everything’ climbs to #5 and Britney’s ‘Till The World Ends’ ascends to a new peak of #15 here.
Nicole Scherzinger’s ‘Don’t Hold Your Breath’ debuts at #27 here this week, hardly living up to our expectations of a Top 20 entry. The track was rush released here after radio started adding it off the back of its UK #1 success but to be honest, they shouldn’t have waited a week to drop the track. Universal Music keeps playing the hokey pokey with Nicole’s album release here – first pulling it off the release schedule after ‘Poison’ flopped here, then adding it back on when ‘DHYB’ got on radios, and now it’s been crossed off the list again.
Rihanna’s ‘California King Bed’ debuts at #28 on our Aussie singles chart this week after becoming the most added new song on radio last week. Yes, the whole farce over that Britney remix of ‘S&M’ was a slight detractor but it’s a novelty number compared to this epic gem. Over in the States, ‘S&M’ was predicted to sell over 300,000 copies to go #1 again this coming week – thanks to the Brit remix – but since Lady Gaga dropped ‘Judas’ on Saturday, the game has changed. Billboard projects that ‘Judas’ will sell over 350,000 (actually, closer to 400,000) with less than two-and-a-half days of sales to make a #1 debut by the end of the charting period. ‘Judas’ debuts at #14 on the UK charts this week, off the back of only two and a half days’ digital sales.
The Potbelleez’s ‘From The Music’ enters at #32 on our ARIA singles chart this week, already faring better than their last effort ‘Shake it’ (which only managed to go #51). The Aussie dance meisters’ much-delayed second studio album Destination Now is slated for release on 27 May.
Wynter Gordon’s roof-raising new single ‘Til Death (Denzal Park Radio Edit)’ is the most added new song to Aussie radios this week. The track is currently charting at #23 on our Aussie iTunes chart. Elsewhere on radio’s most added: Avril Lavigne’s new one ‘Smile’ (#2), Arctic Monkeys’ ‘Don’t Sit Down ‘Cause I’ve Moved Your Chair’ (splendid title – #8) and Jennifer Lopez’s ‘I’m Into You’ (#9). Australian radios were serviced NKOTBSB’s [Editor’s note: that’s New Kids On The Block crossbred with Backstreet Boys to you, child!] exciting single ‘Don’t Turn Out The Lights’ today and according to our friends at Auspop, the super boyband’s album will arrive here on 3 June.
Adele’s debut 19 cracks our Top 50 for the first time – three years after it was first released. The album charts at #34 this week, boosted by the current wave of Adelegend mania sweeping the nation. 21 is currently perched at #2 here in Australia while over in America, it made its return to the top after letting Britney’s Femme Fatale rule for a week.
Foo Fighters‘ Wasting Light debuts at #1 in Australia this week, making this the band’s fourth consecutive #1 studio album here. Over in the UK, the band also managed to debut on top, ending Adele’s record-breaking reign. The new Foo Fighters single ‘Rope’ managed to chart at #59 here but knowing ya’ll, the now-viral deadmau5 remix is probably gonna be more of what you want.
Ronan Keating and Burt Bacharach’s bromancingly titled duet album When Ronan Met Burt debuts at #8 in Australia this week. The pair raked in the chips over in the UK a few weeks ago when the record sold like crazy during Mother’s Day season. RoRo and Guy Sebastian will return to the judging panel for this year’s Aussie X Factor series. They’ll be joined by former Neighbours siren and Rogue Traders frontbitch Natalie Bassingthwaighte (who replaced Natalie Imbruglia).
Architecture in Helsinki’s new album Moment Bends debuts at #12 here, making it the Melbourne band’s highest charting record in Australia yet. Other Aussies making an impact on our Top 20 this week include The Middle East’s I Want That You Are Always Happy (debuting at #11) and Keith Urban’s Get Closer (re-entering the charts at #19, thanks to the namesake tour).
Jennifer Hudson’s I Remember Me drops to #11 on the US Billboard 200 and #4 on the R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart this week. The project’s lead single ‘Where You At’ keeps a hold at #10 on the R&B singles chart but here in Australia, we’re treated to a “radio mix” of the title track instead. According to our friends from Auspop, ‘I Remember Me’ was issued to Australian radios this morning to whet our appetites for the diva’s Australian promo tour next month. J Hud has been locked in to warble on both Sunrise and Dancing With The Stars. The album will drop locally in May.
Martin Solveig and Dragonette’s ‘Hello’ debuts at #91 on the US Billboard 100 this week. Speaking of dance, Kat DeLuna’s ‘Dancing Tonight’ jumps to a new peak of #10 on the US Dance/Club charts this week while Jessie and The Toy Boys’ breakthrough single ‘Push It’ soars to #17.
The Wombats’ new single ‘Anti-d’ debuts at #42 in the UK this week ahead of the album drop. This Modern Glitch – their second studio album – is out in the UK on 25 April and following that, the project will yield its fourth single ‘Techno Fan’. The gang confirmed last week that they’ll be playing Glastonbury on 24 June.
Metronomy’s third studio album The English Riviera debuts at #28 this week in the UK. The band’s founder Joe Mount recently revealed that he has done two songs for Girls Aloud beauty Nicola Roberts’ forthcoming solo album, one of which is “a bit more electronic-sounding”. He also added that Nicola’s sonic direction is inspired by M.I.A. and Robyn. Mind blown.
